When testing the market, pre-production runs occur. This is always recommended when a product is new to the market. Orders can be shipped by Less than Container Loads (LCL) from off-shore or shiped Fed Ex, UPS or DHL by air.
When at this stage of a project, a business is well underway. One must carry Product Liability insurance, have warehouse/storage ready to store product securely and away from outside environments. It is often recommended that marketing and sales efforts are in effect, as well as a web site be up and running. Either shopping cart capabilities if direct, or order taking capabilities must be online if sales are to be via wholesale.
Pre-production runs are a must and will ensure that the packaged product is correct. It also allows one to not over-inventory in case the product does not sell immediately. If and when it does begin to sell well, moving into full production mode becomes an easier process.
